I apparently started writing this post back in early June but never posted it. So just keep that in mind as you read it.
Summer finally arrived here, better late than never I guess. It would appear that we skipped over Spring and went straight to summer with daily temperatures in the 70's and 80's. Summer in Switzerland means cool sunny days, crisp air, great outdoor pools and daylight until 10pm. Which does make it hard to get the kids in bed at a decent hour but oh well, who needs time to themselves in the evening. So here it is (was) mid-June and the kids and I are flying to North Carolina tomorrow for a visit. Miles is just getting over an ear infection and Ali has had a high fever all weekend, so should make for an interesting flight.

| Everybody enjoys ice cream |
Last weekend we took a great trip to the Alsace region of France. Although we stayed in Colmar, we spent most of our time in Strasbourg and the Alsace wine region. It was really a great weekend and the kids did surprisingly well, despite Miles being a bit under the weather. We have stayed in Colmar before but always during the dead of winter to visit the Christmas market. So it was a nice change of pace to visit the area in warmer weather. And although Colmar is a charming town, we felt like we'd been there done that already and enjoyed exploring some of the other areas that the Alsace region has to offer. Strasbourg was a beautiful, lively town. We enjoyed walking around, shopping and sampling ice cream. On Sunday we visited the Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg (Castle) in the morning. It was a great castle that even the kids enjoyed exploring. In the afternoon we drove the Route des vins (wine route). It was truly beautiful and while the kids slept in the car, we stopped and took turns sampling the wine. We had an early dinner at a charming restaurant before heading back home.

| At the pool with their friends |
In addition we made it to our favorite pool earlier this week. Last year the kiddie pool seemed a bit too deep for Alison but this year she manages it with no problem. Funny what a year will do. We also went strawberry picking. It was all I could do to get Ali not to eat everyone she touched. It was really cute. They were so good, who could blame her. Not sure how many will be left when we get back from North Carolina but maybe Erik will pick some more. All in all a great start to the summer, better late than never.
