Warm Adventures: August 2018

Celebrating a big birthday!

Wow, I can't believe summer has come and gone already. And yes I know, I know I am way behind with updating this blog. So I am going to catch up a bit with monthly blog posts starting with August and going back 6 months rather than one long blog post and hopefully get back on track to doing more frequent updates. My Meemaw reminded me yesterday that she really looks forward to seeing these updates and pictures. So as a promise to my Meemaw, I commit to blogging regularly.

Lots of game playing

So here goes. August 2018. In early August we said good bye to my mom and Mikey who had been visiting with us since early July (next blog post). As always it was wonderful to have them around and hard to say goodbye. We had tons of fun and made even more great memories. Mikey, aka my step-dad, turned 80 at the end of June (hence the T-shirts, that my step-sister had made for us). After we said goodbye to my folks, the kids still had one week of left Summer holidays, so we spent every day at the pool. No really we did as both kids had swim lessons there every morning. It was actually really fun just relaxing at the pool for 5 days straight. Miles earned his seahorse badge (Level 2) and Ali her Octopus Badge, again (Level 5 I think). Don't get me started on the swim levels here and the degree. length and cost of them. I don't get it, we just do it and grumble and hope one day when they are 18 they will know how to swim and we can stop paying for lessons.

Love these campground playgrounds

After a week at the pool, we decided to escape to the mountains for some camping down in the Graubunden area. It was beautiful (and cold at night). We did a lovely long hike to the source of the Rhine. The playgrounds at these campgrounds are so cool.

1st day of school

Monday the 13th school started. Alison started 2nd grade and Miles started his 2nd/3rd year of Kindergarten. They both love school and were so excited to get started. Here they only had 4 weeks off for summer holidays. They both have some fun extra curricular activities this year. Ali has choir, reading, violin, tennis, and soon to be movie making, while Miles has swimming and Turnen (gym). They are both doing really well in school.

Every year, usually the weekend after school starts, our town hosts Gauklerfest. Three days of street performances, jugglers, food, and amazing shows. Acts from all over the world congregate in our little town and we get to spend the entire weekend being completely entertained.

So nice to see friends and show them around

Our good friends Merrill and Marketa stopped through for a visit this past weekend. The latest but not the last in a string of visitors we've had this year. We love showing our friends and family around this beautiful country. And it's alway good to catch up with old friends.

In between all of this we've done some awesome hiking, as it's been a super warm and dry summer.

In other non kid related news, Erik is working hard building his business. He has made some good contacts and acquired some nice projects in the last few months. I am putting the final touches on my health coaching certification (yippee). I have a new website and am taking new clients as well. Our office (5 minute walking commute from our apartment) has been a great accomplishment. It's allowed us to separate work from home a bit more and it's a nice place for clients, customers and friends to stop by.

And that about rounds out August. Stay tuned as we have some exciting news coming up for September, where I will hopefully be blogging from the set of a movie. More details to come.
